Pacific Cannery Lofts

A 1919 West Oakland cannery reborn in 2009 as one of the East Bay's signature loft communities — architect David Baker and Holliday Development exporting the formula they invented in San Francisco across the bay. Studios, flats and loft townhouses arrange around three open-air courtyards.

The project is part of the larger Central Station redevelopment near the old 16th Street Southern Pacific depot, and it reads as a neighborhood rather than a single building. Published unit counts vary by how the phases are sliced — roughly 160 to 200 homes — and the courtyard live/work townhouses are the ones worth waiting for.
